Summer Mahj Cookout

Remember the bubbes from Mahj, Dim Sum & Babka last year? They are inviting J-Cuties to come play with them at a Summer Mahj Cookout on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 1-3:30PM. 

Jewish mahjong sets and tables will be set up in the JCC Aceman Lounge, led by Lisa Cohen Quay from the JCC Adult Program. Other wager-free games available include Poker, Scrabble, Canasta and Rummy Q. All game supplies provided!

No game experience required. That’s what bubbes are for - to teach and feed you!!

Registration for J-Cuties is free to participate in this SCENT-FREE gameplay is required in advance. When registering for a spot, please keep in mind that JQT serves Jewish queer and trans people, and will be ordering food for you.

Accessibility info -  Programming will take place in the JCC Aceman Lounge room, which is located at 950 W 41st Ave. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, and there are two separate accessible single-stall non-gendered bathrooms in the spaces we will be using. Instructions on how to enter the building will be provided to those who register. There is paid parking available at the JCC with some free parking in neighbouring residential streets.

WHO ARE WE?

Lisa Cohen Quay, RSW, MSW, MPA, is a registered social worker with 30 years experience working with older adults and their families in various community settings in the US and Canada. She coordinates Adult Programs at the Vancouver Jewish Community Centre and is a founding member of the JQT Seniors Initiative. First introduced to North American Mah Jongg as a young teen around her mother's weekly game, Lisa has taught hundreds of players to love the game, both novice and advanced, as well as adjudicating tournaments. https://jccgv.com/program-category/gameplay/
